Top 10 ways to increase PC battery performance

Laptops tend to lose their charm quickly when you’re constantly looking for the nearest power
outlet to charge up. How do you keep your battery going for as
long as possible? Here are some of the best tips to keep your battery on for as long as possible:

1)Defrag your hard drive as regular as possible. A less chunked up system means a faster system which thereby saves more time. To defrag your PC,go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools.

2)Reduce the brightness of the screen to as low as what you can tolerate.

3)Reduce the amount of irrelevant running background programs. These programs add up to the load on the CPU thereby taking some battery.

4)Remove irrelevant external devices. E.g plugging your USB data card when not in use, charging phones, ipods etc with your PC greatly reduce battery power.

5)Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months
with a cloth moistened with
rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your
battery more efficient.

7)Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once
charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every
two to three weeks.

8)When your PC is not in use,be sure to leave it on hibernation and not on standby. Leaving it on standby lets you resume from exactly where you stopped but while its on hibernation, your PC gets shut down and you still get to resume from where you stopped.

9)Optimize the power options to suit yourself. Go to ‘Power
Options’ in your windows control
panel and set it up so that power
usage is optimized

10)Avoid multi-tasking irrelevant programs. Do one
thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email
client run in the background and
listening to your latest set of MP3′s, set your mind to one thing only. If you don’t you’ll only drain out your batteries before
anything gets completed!
